Nitrile Seals

What are Nitrile seals?

Nitrile seals can also be known as Buna-N, and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. They are made from oil-resistant synthetic rubber produced from a co-polymer of acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene.  Indeed one of the most important factors in the properties of NBR is the ratio of ACN to butadiene. The more ACN the higher its resistance to oils but the lower its flexibility. Trade names include Perbunan, Nipol, Krynac and Europrene.

What are some common nitrile rubber applications?

Nitrile seals, gaskets and mouldings are an economic choice for applications requiring high resistance to oil and fuels. It follows that the main applications are in fuel hoses, gaskets, rollers, and other products in which oil resistance is required. However, due to it’s versatility Nitrile is also used in applications requiring resistance to heat, abrasion, water, and gas permeability.
