Phenolic Resin Mouldings

Medical Moulding

Thanks to the unique flexibility of our patented moulding system, DP Seals are able to produce complex and highly detailed mouldings using Phenolic Resins.
Phenolic Resin is a highly durable lightweight material used to make a wide range of products used extensively in the automotive, aerospace and construction industries as well as many household products we use daily. A combination of dielectric and mechanical strength, dimensional stability, heat and chemical resistance make it ideal for producing long lasting complex parts. Thanks to the nature of the material it can be moulded to tight tolerances for high-precision applications.

Advantages of Phenolic Resin Mouldings

Strength and resilience: Phenolic Resin materials are renowned for their long-lasting strength and durability. Able to withstand high impact, heavy workloads and harsh environments.

Heat resistance: Phenolic materials have an inherent resistance to fire and heat, with the ability to withstand temperatures up to 220°C whilst maintaining structural integrity. This makes it ideal for applications that require high-performance under intense thermal stress.

Chemical resistance: A major advantage of Phenolic Resin over other plastics is its resistance to chemicals including solvents, alkali’s and acids. This allows the part to operate whilst in contact with a wide range of substances without degradation or corrosion.

Electrical insulation: Outstanding electrical insulation properties make Phenolic Resin mouldings ideal for use in applications where electrical currents need to be isolated whilst flowing through the component. Especially where safety and operational reliability are concerned.

Cost-effective: Phenolic Resin materials and blends are widely available and thanks to their performance characteristics and durability in a wide range of applications they offer excellent value.

Disadvantages of Phenolic Resin Mouldings

Despite being well recognised for its durability, Phenolic Resin can be surprisingly brittle. This can be rectified by the use of fillers. Before proceeding with manufacturing you should discuss with DP Seals material experts: the application and performance parameters of the component and its interaction with other parts. This will allow the correct specification and blend of materials to achieve the desired operation and functionality.

Applications of Phenolic Resin Mouldings

Automotive and transport: Ideal for use in ignition systems, distributor caps, brake components and other engine components as well as electric vehicle battery systems. Also used in railway carriage and bus/coach parts.

Aerospace and defence: Suitable for interior fixtures and fittings throughout aircraft, rocket nozzles, armoured vehicles and defence systems.

Construction: Can be used in multiple applications in panels, laminates, insulation and pipe supports.

Consumer goods: Used widely in cookware and appliances throughout the kitchen in both domestic and professional environments.

Industrial equipment: Phenolic Resins are used widely in pumps, bearings, gears, valves and anywhere requiring wear resistant components.

Subsea: Marine bulkheads, insulation of electrical components, pumps and other marine equipment.

Medical: Used widely in laboratory equipment, surgical instruments, dental tools and medical devices for testing, sterilising etc.
