Apprentice Jake Courtenay

Our latest apprentice is off to a flying start

DP Seals has always been supportive of the apprentice scheme so we thought it would be great to share a little bit about our latest team member,  Jake Courtenay.

Jake joined DP Seals in 2021 after attending Corfe Hills school. Other than his paper round this is Jake’s first job! At school he always enjoyed metalwork classes and found it was something he was good at so a career in manufacturing and engineering seemed like a natural first step into the world of work. Jake has joined us as an apprentice tool maker, which will see him working in the tool room. Here, he’ll be running and programming a wide variety of machining centres and lathes and getting involved with using all the general tools.

Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions Jake’s college course kept getting postponed, but he finally got to start in January this year. It’s a four year Engineering Technician Level 3 Course at Eastleigh college and Jake will be travelling to Eastleigh one day a week learning many aspects of the engineering industry including machine operation, health and safety and the use of common materials in the industry. At this point Jake’s not looking too far ahead, but his first goal is to become a fully qualified engineer.

He’s settled in very well and has formed a great bond with co-workers, who between them have over 60 years of experience, and plenty of knowledge to share. It’s clear he has bundles of enthusiasm so we’re all excited to see what he can go on to achieve at DP Seals.

Outside of work Jake is a keen football fan, supporting Bournemouth, who he often goes to see play. He also enjoys a round of golf on local courses, and as a beginner keeps his handicap to himself!

Best of luck in both your career and your golf Jake.
